Masonic Heritage Library

A home for the history of our Lodges and Provinces: their stories, traditions and photographs, written and kept up to date by the people who know them best.

Preview only. This page shows how the Heritage Library will look and work. The Lodge shown below is an example we made up for this preview. It is not a real Lodge.
How it will work

Find a Lodge. Read its story. Add to it.

1

Find

Search for a Lodge by name or number. Or browse by country, governing body and Province. You do not need to know how Freemasonry is organised to find what you are looking for.

2

Read

Each Lodge and Province can have its own page: its history, traditions and photographs, with links to its official website.

3

Contribute

Members can send in history, corrections and photographs. Everything is checked before it appears, and a Lodge can choose its own historian to look after its page.

History

This is where the Lodge tells its own story: when and why it was founded, the places it has met, and the moments its members remember. A short introduction comes first, with the full history underneath for those who want to read more.

Traditions

Many Lodges have customs of their own: a toast, a piece of furniture with a story, a working handed down over generations. They can be recorded here so they are not lost.

Photographs and documents

Photographs of living people are only shown when the people in them have agreed.

Ritual

This Lodge uses the Emulation working. Several Lodges can share the same ritual pack and still each have their own history page. A Lodge does not need a ritual pack to have a page.

Links

Each page links to the Lodge's own website and to its Province. Where a Lodge already has a good history online, we link to it rather than copy it.

Contributing

Signed-in members will be able to send in:

  • Lodge and Province histories

  • Accounts of local traditions
Safeguards

Checked before it is published

  • Every contribution is checked by a reviewer before it appears.
  • Pages show clearly whether information was supplied by the Lodge, is independent research, or was contributed by a member.
  • You must have permission to share what you upload. You are responsible for your uploads.
  • Do not upload photographs of living people unless they have agreed.
  • Ritual text is never published in the Heritage Library.
  • Earlier versions are kept, so mistakes can be put right.

Would your Lodge like to be one of the first?

We are looking for a small number of Lodges and historians to help shape the Heritage Library.
